The idea of aBioShocksequel polarizes the gaming community, with some believing the game was perfect as it was and shouldn’t be mined too deeply, while others welcome another chance to return to Rapture. I wonder then, how split opinon would be if the franchise was thoroughly exhausted with, say,a film or an MMOon top of sequels.

These ideas have been put forth by Take-Two as possible directions theBioShockfranchise could be taken during a slide presentation detailing how much the company is worth in the wake of the tussle between Take-Two and Electronic Arts.

They are not definite plans, merely considerations for the potential of Take-Two’s property, but they worry me. I must confess I am definitely one of the ones who find most possible avenues for aBioShocksequel utterly needless and possibly damaging to what was a great piece of videogame storytelling. As far as an MMO goes? Well that might as well flush all credibility and artistic achievement down the toilet. I can’t think of a more tasteless way to exploit theBioShockuniverse, if I can be candid — and I can be.

Either way, it doesn’t matter. Be it Take-Two or EA at the helm, we may as well prepare for theBioShockfranchise to take a firm and hard raping without mercy.BioShockis a ripe, bursting udder, and I don’t expect publishers to stop milking even when dust comes out.
