Surprise, surprise. The backlash overDmC‘s“new” Dantehas reached its inevitable conclusion, with fans taking it upon themselves to play designer and give the protagonist’s controversial appearance a brand new makeover. The only trouble is … I can’t seewhatthis “new new” Dante has done to look any better.
The best part of this professional design document is the bit that says, “Black/skunk hair OK to keep,” as if the fanbase sat down to have hard think about things, and decided it wouldallowNinja Theory to use one of its ideas. That’s very big of you, guys!
We also have, “No red coat? No Dante!” But wait, wasn’t his coat red in the trailer? No, apparently it was burgundy, which is ENTIRELY THE WRONG COLOR YOU IDIOT! Fortunately, theseimportant blueprintshave fixed the problem and we can now confirm that what you’re looking at is, indeed, Dante.
Otherwise, aside from a few thoroughly pointless things like a patch and a pendant, they haven’t really don’t anything to improve the character. Instead, he kind of looks worse, like a rejectedFinal Fantasycharacter. If that’s what the fans want, I think it’s best we leave it to the experts.
Seriously, thearrogance of some fanbases…

[Update:I have been contacted by the artist of this picture, who calls herselfKrazy Kitsune, to be informed that this was her attempt at a “middle ground” blending of old and new Dante. I was misinterpreted some of the intent of the drawing, which was more a reconciliatory effort than an attempt to tell Ninja Theory what to do. So, sorry to Kitsune for getting the intent wrong, although the whole “fan redesign” thing still gets my goat.]
