Cory Doctorow has a new novel out aimed at the young adult audience called “For the Win.” It’s a story of a group of MMO players, all of whom having made their hobby into lucrative jobs, who become entangled in something greater than themselves. And, because Doctorow has strong opinions on copyright law and supports Creative Commons, he’s made the entire book available to download for free.
I read the first few chapters last night and I’m intrigued. Some of the characters and situations seem a bit fantastical. But it’s fiction for adolescents, after all, so there’s no doubt some license used there. And hell, maybe it is like this. I’m not a gold farmer, after all.
Give it a download and perusal. You have nothing to lose after all and Doctorow’s a talented writer. Definitely worth a look at the very least.
