Surely the cosmos are in perfect alignment for the indie game developer this year.Cave StoryandLa Mulanaare making their way to WiiWare, and now Derek Yu’s cave exploring masterpiece,Spelunky, has been revealed as a 2010 XBLA release. Someone pinch me! I must be dreaming!
Theofficial websitefor the XBLA version went up yesterday to deliver the awesome news. Like bothCave StoryandLa Mulanabefore it, the release won’t be just a straight port of the free-to-play PC version. In addition to getting a visual and audial overhaul, it will have “other features for XBLA users”. What these other features are (well, besides acheivements) remains unknown. What the game’s going to look and sound like are also a mystery at this point. But hey, just the fact that another of the best indie games I’ve ever played is being enhanced and making its way to a console is enough to make it an instant buy. It’s also great to see Yu branching out into the home console world, and putting himself in a position where more people can give him money and enjoy his excellent product.
While anxiously awaiting more information and a less vague release date, why not check out thefree PC release? That is, if you haven’t managed to becoercedinto it already. Version 1.0 of the game has just been released alongside the XBLA news, so whether you’re already hooked or a newcomer, you should giveSpelunkya download for the brand new features this version adds!
