A researcher, Jim Karle, at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada recentlyreleased a studythat claims that gaming directly benefits short term memory. In his studies so far, it seems that gamers complete memory-based tests faster and with fewer errors than those who do not game.

One could argue that his study has a somewhat low sample size, or that it takes place in Canada (where people are bred for their delicious brains), but this is definitely a nice juxtaposition from the recent (and prolonged) media saturation of the violence that gamers cause. If we could convince our politicians of the benefits of gaming instead of allowing them to be swayed by the clinically obese soccer moms of the Midwest, we’d live in a much better country.
