The Japanese software and hardware chart went live today, and it revealed that the 3DS managed to squeak into first place — but not without resistance from Sony. In fact, while the 3DS got into first place with 40,649 units shifted, the over-a-damn-decade-old PSP sat threateningly in second with 31,741 sales.
Nintendo itselfhas admittedthat the 3DS’ performance has been sluggish, but that’s what happens when you release a system almost two months before it’s ready. Hopefully, thepromise of the eShopand the release ofOcarina of Time 3Dwill bring in more consumer interest. Despite its many flaws, the 3DS is a neat little machine and I’d like to see it supported.
The Wii is having a worse time, scraping itself just 6,678 sales — but it’s hardly surprising considering everybody has one. The PS3 did better with 16,081 and a comfortable third place, while the Xbox 360 dragged in a pitiful 2,875.
Meanwhile, the PSPgo sold 55 units. El Oh El.
