GDC 2007: Night at White Wolf

Last night the Dtoid crew closed out GDC 2007 in the usual fashion — getting drunk and spreading the gospel of Destructoid. You should be able to get a pretty good idea of how the night went by the photos taken at theWhite Wolfparty, but really, they don’t do the whole spectacle justice. I think someone ended up with a hamster in a naughty place, but I honestly can’t remember. Check out the photos, they’re historic....

Good riddance: 10 games we’re happy were canceled

Just because a videogame has been announced (and sometimes millions of dollars dumped into them), that’s no guarantee they’ll see the fluorescent lights of your favorite retailer. Today, Capcom announced it had pulled the plug onMega Man Universe. While fans of the Blue Bomber shed a tear, we’re sitting around the office shrugging indifferently. Based on what we had played, we weren’t sold on the idea anyhow:LittleBigPlanetmeetsMega Manwith silly graphics and sluggish controls?...

Gravity Rush is my first must-own PlayStation Vita game

There’s always that one game, the one that finally helps someone decide if they’re really going to invest hundreds of dollars into a brand new gaming system. I’ve been hesitant about getting the PlayStation Vita, as nothing has really impressed me yet. That is, until I sawGravity Rushfor the first time this past week. I never even heard of this game before. In fact, Destructoid seemed to miss this completely, aside from user Stop Spoilerswho blogged about it on hisCommunity Blog during Tokyo Game Show....

Half-Life 2 fan made mini-series is absolutely amazing

Escape From City 17is a short film series made by thePurchase Brothers. Part one was just released onto Youtube and this is easily going to be the best videogame related fan made video of 2009. The amazing thing about this and the second episode (coming soon) is that both were filmed with a budget of just $500. The video really feels like a Hollywood production, if not better. Speaking of which, this is how you make a videogame into a movie, Hollywood....

Hands-on with Alienware’s most powerful laptop, the M17x

We had a chance to check out the fastest, most powerful (and high-tech) gaming laptop ever: Alienware’s M17x. In fact, we got the full unboxing experience at their offices, which in hindsight was probably in an attempt to make me feel like I was unboxing my very own M17x, making me want one. And it worked. Thanks a lot, Alienware. Watch on in our video interview as we take this beauty for a spin....

Each town feels that their food/cooking is better than the other....

How X-Blades crafted its half-naked heroine

WithX-Bladesreleased and a full review forthcoming, we felt that our oversaturated coverage just wasn’t complete without one more teary-eyed look back at the most important thing this game has to offer — half-naked women with their arses hanging out. We have made a great deal of fuss about main character Ayumi and her choice of clothes — or lack thereof. What better way to celebrate the game’s release, then, than with some exclusive concept art and a little chat with European publisher Topware to see just how far this sword-swinging slutbag has come?...

Hut! Nintendo patents a soft football controller

The above patent image? HA! Hilarious! It looks like Nintendo has been cooking up a soft football controller for the Wii, according to a recently filed patent submitted by Howard Chang, VP for R&D. It looks to be something like a NERF football with a groove cut out for the Wii Remote. You wrap your hands around the ball as normal, and your fingers can touch the Wii Remote buttons. Other images in the patent suggest that even the Nunchuck could be stuffed inside....

Impressions: Fighters Uncaged

As much as Microsoft would like to indicate, Kinect is a device that is going to leave most hardcore gamers in the cold…at least initially. With the upcoming launch set for November 4 in the States, most of the expected launch titles are made up of casual sports, health and pet games. However, there is one exception—Fighters Uncaged—that promises to offer the first hardcore game experience on Kinect. I’ve gone, well—body-on—with the game, and am ready to share my results....
