Want Dragon Quest IX over here? Maybe in April, says Wada

Now, I’m no analyst but I bet Square Enix is tickled pink thatDragon Quest IXisselling oodles of copiesin its native Japan,a few dismissed Amazon complaints aside. Given that Square loves making money, whether or notDQIXwould ever make it to the United States seems like a no-brainer — it’s notif, it’swhen. Gamekyo is reportingthat Sqaure Enix boss and talking head Yoichi Wada established a pretty vague timeframe for us at a recent press event in Tokyo — an occidental release is being studied now, but fans of the series shouldn’t expect the game before April of next year....

We host a Brutal Legend Twitter party, you win a PS3 Slim!

A few weeks ago, Destructoid co-hosted a Twitter party forKing of Fighters XII, using everybody’s favorite self-obsession network to hand out a bunch of cool prizes to the Destructoid community. The power of the Destructoid fanbase was out in full force, and within the hour, the #KOF12 tag became a trending topic. The influence of the Destructoid community has been noted, and that’s why we’re happy to say that we’re returning to Twitter this Friday to host yet another party....

Weekend Destructainment: BEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At this years Game Developer’s Choice Awards, The Escapist’s Yahtzee did a few skits to keep the crowd entertained in between the award segments. Yahtzee went over the 2007’s big hits and misses in his classic style hating on everything and everyone. My favorite part has to be theBioShock/Mario Bee Suit joke. The Weekend is almost over, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t get Destructainmented. After the jump, take a look at the strongest FPS weapon ever....

When less is more: impressions of Morsel’s Kaleidoscope

It was one of two games not to win an award at the competition but, given the fact that it’s only been in development for two months, its selection as one of six finalists is impressive nevertheless. It is a side-scrolling platformer with a subdued art style, aboslutely no violence, and very few power-ups. I played six games at this year’sDream.Build.Playcompetition, but there was only one that prompted me to show it to my girlfriend....

Why does Square Enix keep doing this to me?

First, the Square Enix officialonline storeopens and offers a variety of collectable items that aren’t available for purchase at any other retailer. Then, there werelimited edition collectable potionswhich I was saved from buying because I just couldn’t find them anywhere. Now the potions have been revamped and come in theseawesome cans, which go on sale in Japan on October 23 for 191 yen ($1.50). I’m already clawing at my face and trying to figure out who I know in Japan that can ship these over to me, when I notice that there is asecondset coming out with accompanying figures on November 27th....

Wii U won’t play DVD or Blu-ray, Nintendo confirms

Likely shocking no one, Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii U will not play DVD or Blu-ray movies. Like when discussing the Wii, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says the company thinks you probably already have a device capable of playing those formats. He adds that “it didn’t warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies.” It’s a fair assumption to make....

WipEout HD: Now with intrusive, sluggish advertising!

The most common argument you ever see during a debate about in-game advertising is one I tend to agree with myself: It’s okay so long as the adverts don’t negatively impact the gameplay. So, what do we say aboutWipEout HD, a game that was recently updated to include adverts whichdouble the loading times? The latest patch now forces players to watch a commercial before each race, courtesy of the fine marketing folks at Double Fusion....

WTF: Nintendo patents Massively Single Player game

Nintendo. You.YOU. Nintendo filed a patent back in 2010, and it was just published last week. It was for Massively Single-Player Online Game. Read that again: a Massively Single-Player Online Game. Mind blown? Imagine a single-player game in which the player’s actions change the world and other players playing the same single-player game. You’d get the benefit of an online world without all the pesky people running around. In an example Nintendo says that one player could find a pile of building materials and would build a house....

YARRR! It’s a Risen 2: Dark Waters cinematic trailer

Here’s a cinematic trailer forRisen 2: Dark Waters, and it’s quite a slickly produced one. It also features pirates, guns and big scary sea monsters. All in all, it looks like a significant departure from the original Risen, might not be a bad thing. The firstRisenhad a lot of heart, but its slow pace and tendency to put overwhelmingly deadly enemieseverywherereally held it back. I’m hoping to beat it before this one is ready, but I’m not sure if that’ll ever happen....

You need to put Nimbus on your radar

I’ve been playing Noumenon Games’ debut title,Nimbus, and it is an absolute delight. I’m fairly certain the vast majority of you haven’t even heard of it, which we can hopefully help remedy. It’s a puzzle game with an emphasis on figuring out how to fly through a level in the fastest way possible. The attached trailer does a decent job of conveying whatNimbusis all about, although I will say the video makes it look far easier than the game actually is....
