It was one of two games not to win an award at the competition but, given the fact that it’s only been in development for two months, its selection as one of six finalists is impressive nevertheless. It is a side-scrolling platformer with a subdued art style, aboslutely no violence, and very few power-ups. I played six games at this year’sDream.Build.Playcompetition, but there was only one that prompted me to show it to my girlfriend....

Likely shocking no one, Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii U will not play DVD or Blu-ray movies. Like when discussing the Wii, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says the company thinks you probably already have a device capable of playing those formats. He adds that “it didn’t warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies.” It’s a fair assumption to make....

Mind blown? Imagine a single-player game in which the player’s actions change the world and other players playing the same single-player game. You’d get the benefit of an online world without all the pesky people running around. In an example Nintendo says that one player could find a pile of building materials and would build a house....

Here’s a cinematic trailer forRisen 2: Dark Waters, and it’s quite a slickly produced one. It also features pirates, guns and big scary sea monsters. All in all, it looks like a significant departure from the original Risen, might not be a bad thing. The firstRisenhad a lot of heart, but its slow pace and tendency to put overwhelmingly deadly enemieseverywherereally held it back. I’m hoping to beat it before this one is ready, but I’m not sure if that’ll ever happen....

I’ve been playing Noumenon Games’ debut title,Nimbus, and it is an absolute delight. I’m fairly certain the vast majority of you haven’t even heard of it, which we can hopefully help remedy. It’s a puzzle game with an emphasis on figuring out how to fly through a level in the fastest way possible. The attached trailer does a decent job of conveying whatNimbusis all about, although I will say the video makes it look far easier than the game actually is....
