Dragon’s Dogma online has social networking elements

I tried my best to getDragon’s Dogmaproducer Hiroyuki Kobayashi to talk about how the game’s online systems will work. He seemed like he wanted to, but knew better. In fact, in the middle of one of his answers to my interview questions yesterday, a representative from Capcom cut him off. We did hear that they plan to borrow cues from social networking for the upcoming Capcom title, but your guess is as good as mine about how that will work....

E3 09: Red Faction dev hopes for a ‘word of mouth’ success

With the utter chaos that is E3 currently taking up virtually all of my free time, I won’t be able to try outRed Faction: Guerrillauntil this weekend at the earliest. The game came out today, and although our review won’t be going up until after the convention is over, plenty of other reviews have. The verdict?Unsurprisingly good. But strong reviews doesn’t necessarily mean strong sales.Gamasutra bumped intoVolition community manager J Goldberg on the show floor to ask his thoughts on a certain analyst’s prediction thatGuerrillawould fall short of expected sales....

E3: Rhythm Heaven Wii kills it

Have you playedRhythm Heaven? ThisWarioWare-esque rhythm-action series has been largely ignored in the US and Europe, which is a shame. My guess is that this is largely because the superior GBA iteration of the game never left Japan, leaving Westerners with only the fun but noticeably inferior DS sequel. With that slightly bad taste in my mouth from the DS game, I was a little worried about how the Wii version would turn out....

E3: The show is over, but we’re only getting started

Wow, this has been an insane week. We want to thank you, faithful readers, for commenting, tweeting, giving us feedback, and on the whole, putting up with our nonsense. It’s been our pleasure getting genuinely happy about videogames during E3 2011. The show is (officially) over, with the Entertainment Software Association declaring that some 46,800 people attended. It’s always a blast, especially when we get newhardwareannouncements, more follow-ups to beloved franchises, and the occasional refreshing new IP....

EA to limit sales of Star Wars: The Old Republic

If you thought downloading Origin would mean your Electronic Arts games would be easier to obtain, you’re not altogether correct. In the case ofStar Wars: The Old Republic, EA has stated it will limit sale of the game to a percentage of customers, in order to ensure a smooth ride for players. The restrictions go for both digital and retail copies, although EA won’t confirm exactly how limited “limited” means. The publisherhassaid that it would rather have fewer customers that can get into the game without problems than lots of customers who share a lower quality experience....

EarthBound Virtual Console release encumbered by legal problems

Whenever someone mentionsEarthBoundto me, I flash back to that time I sat on my bedroom floor drawing pictures of Ness on envelopes. My goal was to send the marked envelopes toNintendo Powerand put a note in each one demanding work onEarthBound 64to resume. I don’t know if I ever sent the letters, but I do remember feeling deflated — as if my entire videogame world crumbled because of Nintendo’s deaf ears and tight belts....

Epic blames piracy for killing the PC scene

It’s an age-old debate, and one that Epic has been dragged into many times. Is piracy the cancer that is killing PC gaming? Ask Mike Capps, and he’ll likely say yes. According to the Epic Games boss, it slaughtered several developers and changed his own company’s entire business model. “Piracy’s already had its impact,” laments Capps. “If you walked into this place six years ago, Epic was a PC company and always had been....

Famitsu: Last Remnant is good, 38/40 score

Square Enix’sLast Remnantpopped up out of nowhere some time ago, but it was just a name, with no story and hardly any visual content to connect to it. We didn’t see or hear much of anything on the title until later this year. Finally, at TGS, we had a chance to play just a little bit of it. Andwe really likedwhat we were able to see. In fact, just afew days ago, we called it the “next big Square Enix console release....

For the casual gamer who has it all, Wii SUPREME

Stuart Hughes, a company which apparently makes the most blingin’ (blingest? blinginest?) tech accessories on the planet Earth, has transformed the most affordable console in this generation into themost expensive. Pictured above is theNintendo Wii SUPREME, which is manufactured out of 22 ct. gold, with diamonds acting as the face buttons. The console, which has a limited production run of three units, will set you back almost £300,000, which puts it just outside of my budget as a gift for Jonathan Holmes....
