Talk about kicking off the new year with some solid videogames. Vigil Games’ action-adventure gameDarksiderswas one of the first major releases of the year, and from the look of it, a bunch of us got a lot of enjoyment from kicking some demon and angel ass. Over onGameInformer, a collection of user- and staff-submitted questions were presented to Vigil general manager David Adams. It’s a really fun read, simply because A) the questions are totally frank and B) it offers some great insight in terms of scrapped ideas....

On-demand movie serviceVUDUis set to launch on PlayStation Network in the United States on November 23. Sony would like you to know that at this time the PS3 will be the only gaming console to have this service. You’ll be able to stream in true 1080p HD format and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound through an application. Here’s their rundown of the service: Using the VUDU streaming movie service, PS3 owners will be able to conveniently and instantly access more than 4,000 HD movies from all major Hollywood studios on-demand, including new releases available the same day they are released to DVD or Blu-ray Disc....

Recently I had the pleasure of readingctrl+alt+defeat’sfirst issue, “War”, in which Dilyan Damyanov ponders the meaning of the phrase “War, war never changes.” By taking the general events that occur in the Fallout timeline, Damyanov comes to the conclusion that the words are meaningless, because there is no underlying constant in theFalloutwars to validate the phrase. I will concede, albeit only a smidgen, that Damyanov is right… if we look at the conflicts in the franchise very broadly and literally....

Warhawk, Sony’s upcoming jet/ground-combat-simu-arcade title hasfinally gone gold. After what seems like years of watching pretty pictures and hearing how it’s the next evolution in the jet/ground-combat-simu-arcade genre, on August 28th, 2007, Joe Q. Public and Jane Q. Mudane will get their chance to pick the game up either via download on the PlayStation Network, or at retail for an MSRP of $59.99. The smart money believes this title will sell like hotcakes, if only because of the lack of quality titles on the PS3....

At Nintendo’s media summit, held in San Francisco today, I had a chance to see the localized version of upcoming DS/DSi gameWarioWare D.I.Y.in action. After getting a full demonstration on how it worked, my imagination is running wild with minigame possibilities. If you haven’t heard yet, theD.I.Y.part of the game’s name refers to the ability to create your own minigames to be placed in the WarioWare minigame line-up. In other words, you’ll have access to the tools to create your own version of the crazy second-long games that you’d usually see in a WarioWare title....

Yesterday, we got towatch the first four minutesofChronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. It was nothing short of brilliant. The animations, tone, and the encapsulation of Riddick’s personality seemed spot on. Today Atari released this trailer, dubbed “Desperation.”It begins with Riddick’s voice. “I’m hell’s messenger,” he says. “Name’s Riddick.” Rock music then blasts and a series of quick cuts highlight action elements in the game. Night vision, hand-to-hand combat, and shooting are all shown in frenzied snippets....

Recently, you might have heard thatMass Effect 2on PlayStation 3 will feature an exclusive six-hour mission. Forget what you know, because that actually refers to what’s included on the disc: “Lair of the Shadow Broker,” “Project Overlord,” “Kasumi: Stolen Memory,” and the Blood Dragon Armor. There’s also the Cerberus Network content, too. SinceMass Effectnever released outside of PC and Xbox 360, the PS3 version ofME2will have an interactive comic to bring players up to speed....

An image taken from a GameStop internal price list has beenmaking the roundsrevealing the price ofWii Fitto be $89.99. GameStop is also asking for $10 deposit on the game. All signs point to this being true, but until Nintendo confirms this, it’s Rumortoid for now. I actually had a lot of fun when I playedWii Fitduring GDC so I know I will eventually get this but $90 sounds way too much....
