Don’t be pissed, here comes Myst (to the PSP next week)

Myst. My sole memory of this game places me in my grandparents’ house when I was about six years old. I didn’t understand it then, and I don’t understand it now. Perhaps now is the time to finally get to grips with this isolating puzzle game,as it’s comingto the PSP via the PlayStation Network on July 16. This downloadable version ofMystwill contain the complete original game, and also adds in theNew Rime Age, a previously unreleased addition to the title....

E3 10: Metal Gear Solid: Rising asks ‘What will you cut?’

Right now, during Microsoft’s E3 press ponference, Hideo Kojima came out to show footage of the new gameMetal Gear Solid: Rising. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Granted, I am a hugeMetal Gearfanboy, but, wow. Seeing Raiden — the playable character in the game — cut through everything on-screen was one of the most badass things I have seen in a really long time. And cutting is exactly what the game is going to be all about....

E3 10: Scientific proof Konami had the best conference

I’m just going to leave this here. What is it? PROOF that Konami had the best press conference and won E3 2010. This short clip sums it all up nicely. Sure, the real-life show choir coming out to perform Queen’s “Somebody to Love” inKaraoke Revolution: Gleewas fabulous in its own right, and the technical issues were good for a laugh or twelve. Butthis. This part was easily the highlight. Prepare to be amazed....

E3 2007: Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii) impressions

Check out Mario and Sonic … they’re at the Olympics! Isn’t that grand? Even thoughMario & Sonic at the Olympic Gamesfor the Wii was not playable, it was demoed by Sega behind closed doors. Quite honestly, I think that’s probably enough for me. The title (almost too predictably) appears to be nothing more than a mini-game fest, filled to the brim with waggle and shake controls worthy of any game that’s going to sell ten million copies on the name alone....

E3: Hands-on with Luigi’s Mansion 2

Okay, now THIS is what I’m talking about! Being a big fan of the originalLuigi’s Mansionfor the GameCube, I was beside myself when a sequel wasannounced for the 3DSat the Nintendo press conference. True, I was beside myself theentireconference, but THIS ONE MOMENT WAS EXTRA-SPECIAL! But how does the game play? An exciting reveal is one thing, but it doesn’t matter if the game itself is not very good. Luckily, there is nothing to worry about withLuigi’s Mansion 2....

E3: Microsoft kicks off presser with Modern Warfare 3

And we’re rolling. The first game shown atMicrosoft’s E3 2011 conferencewas none other thanModern Warfare 3. The demonstration started with the player and his scuba team underwater, avoiding mines and tailing a submarine. The player then planted an explosive on the sub, and it surfaced. Naturally, they boarded the thing, shot some bad guys, and entered. Flash forward past more dead bodies, and the launch codes have been obtained. The team then gets out, boards a boat, and navigates through a wasteland of destroyed ships and gunfire....

E3: Trackmania 2 is like Uniracers … in a car!

Admittedly, nothing was shown ofTrackmania 2at the Ubisoft press conference outside of a quick trailer, but my first impression of the game was it looked a lot like Super Nintendo cult classicUniracers… in a car! Yeah, the only thing they may have in common is the similar track design composed of giant loops and twisting turns, but, hey, I loveUniracersand will welcome any excuse to talk about it.

EA responds with band-aid fix for NHL 09 DREs and crashes on 360

EA Sports’NHL 09has, like its immediate predecessor, garnereduniversal acclaimon the Xbox 360 — 11 reviews, no scores below an 80 — from gaming publications around the world (of course, if you’re looking for our perspective, fear not; a Destructoid review is in the works). But the game’s launch last week was marred bywidespread reportsof disc read errors and freezing with the 360 version of the game. EA forumites recommended clearing the Xbox 360 cache and disabling the game’s autosave feature, but apparently, those are temporary solutions; the problems eventually rear their ugly heads again....

Enjoy six times as much fun with the six-man NBA 09 The Inside cover

I thought “Think Different” was Apple’s old advertising slogan. Well, it seems SCEA has taken a page out of Apple’s book with the box art for their upcoming basketball game,NBA 09 The Inside. That’s right, folks: in the basketball arena, it’s not just EA Sports vs. 2K Sports — Sony’s in-house dev team has been making basketball videogames for a while now. Anyway, back to the cover: instead of the standard “pick a guy and put him on the cover” shtick, SCEA San Diego (the same folks who brought youMLB 08: The Show) decided that they couldn’t decide on just one man, so the cover artwork forNBA 09 The Insidefeatures the following six NBA stars, in counterclockwise order from top left:...

Final Fantasy composer interviewed, talks Black Mages III and beer

If famed game music composer Nobuo Uematsu and I ever got the chance to hang out, I think we’d get along rather well. We both love music and beer, and sometimes that’s all you need to build a relationship. If we did meet, I’m sure we’d hit up a bar for pints of Guinness and chat about his mostly Square Enix-manned game music rock band, the Black Mages. It seems that Music 4 Games thinks along the same lines....

First screenshots of Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime 3

Aspreviously covered, Japan is getting anotherRocket Slimetitle — this time, appropriately enough, for the 3DS — inSlime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 3: Daikaizoku to Shippodan. For our purposes, let’s just refer to it asRocket Slime 3. The first screenshots have gone public, courtesy of Square Enix. The pirate theme seems like a natural fit for the series, especially now that we have images to go off of. Still no word on whether this game will see a release outside of Japan, but even still, keeping up withRocket Slime 3certainly won’t hurt....
