Ain’t no objections: Phoenix Wright for Wiiware

Raised in a family of real-life defense attorneys, I’ve been interested in seeing how Capcom could take something as serious as law and transform it into a game. While I’m not that interested in buying them for the DS, I am certainly interested in checking them out when Capcom re-releases the first threePhoenix Wrightgames for WiiWare, at 1000 points each next Spring. Those expecting something new from these ports are going to be disappointed....

Animated Pokemon Black/White fights, now in blur-o-vision

Forgive the blurriness of these videos taken straight from this week’s Pokemon Sunday, but they’re the best that I can post right now. Blurry or not, they show us one thing for certain; the days of fully static Pokemon battles appear to be over. The animation here doesn’t utilize a lot of “re-drawn sprites”, and given thatPokemon Black/Whitemay end up having +600 Pokemon, that’s to be expected. Still, from what I can tell, the animation here looks smooth and convincing, adding a lot of personality to the already strange and occasionally disturbing world of Pokemon....

Arizona man pays $400 for Wii, opens box to find a block of wood

I’m not sure what annoys me more: the fact that this poor guy was duped by some jerk who decided to sell him a $400 chunk of firewood, or that the writer from ABC calls the item “A Wii game” repeatedly in her article about the incident. You write for ABC, don’t you think you could have possibly researched the situation enough to know that the Wii is called a “console” and not a “game?...

Art Attack Friday: Junkandres

Hamza might smack me in the jaw for posting the above photo, what with the otherrealisticWTF renderingsof game characters he’s collected in the past. But since I was the one who found this alarming rendition of theSpace Invadermonsterand not him, frankly, he can go suck a shark. Junkandres (aka Juan Andrés Cardona) is our artist of the week for Art Attack Friday, and although hisSpace Invaderpiece is one of a kind, his talent as a vector artist has provided us with quite the selection of shiny gaming-themed wallpapers....

BioShock’s International Order of the Pawns sends cards

It appears that theBioShock 2marketing team is beginning to ramp it up a bit more as they’ve sent out cards to a select few that proclaim the recipients as members of the International Order of the Pawns. AsBeatboxtaunexplains the card came in the mail and are part of an order that was set up to discover what exactly happened to Rapture after it disappeared. Each member of the organization was given a card, but there doesn’t seem to be any reason yet that for people receiving them, though rumor has it today may be the day we find out why they came....

Boston Globe weaves a LONG tale of intrigue, love and Tetris

World record level classic gaming is a close relative of the sort of low-grade savantism found in chess champions and Dustin Hoffman characters — it baffles the general public, and is really only appreciated for what it is by those who spend their lives dedicated to the pursuit of perfect speed runs on games older than most of the readers of this site. The above video comes courtesy ofthis Boston Globe articleby writer Billy Baker, or as he’s more famously known now, Mr....

Nintendo of America’s oft-talked-about executive VP of sales and marketing, Cammie Dunaway, is leaving the company. Her new gig lies outside of the videogame industry altogether, strangely enough, and the transition will take place on October 1. “We appreciate Cammie’s contributions to Nintendo and the role she played in bringing the Wii and Nintendo DS experiences to millions of people,” said NoA’s president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime in a statement. “Her team and the rest of Nintendo of America remain focused on our goal of maintaining the incredible momentum Nintendo enjoys heading into the busy holiday season....
