E3 09: Heroes of Telara shows some early promise serverside

There’s a big trend for computer games to have cloud processing. The action of having everything done server side is really interesting for people who own crappy rigs. Unfortunately, what makes waves are services that have an all-or-nothing approach, like OnLive. Trion World Network, Inc. has a different approach to this upcoming technology, especially with their gameHeroes of Telara. Instead of having everything done serverside, all the content and updates are done on the servers, whereas graphics and audio are done clientside....

E3 09: On the future of Tetris as a virtual sport

In an interview I had yesterday withTetriscreator, Alexey Pajitnov, and CEO of The Tetris Company, Henk Rogers, a veritable plethora of interesting information came out. Sure, the typical can be expected, but what was most interesting is the potential future of the game. Rogers and Pajitnov actually have some pretty impressive ideas, most interestinglyTetris’ future as the first virtual sport. That’s right, a virtual sport. Of course, anybody who has playedTetrisat a high enough level will know thatTetrisisn’t exactly the most exciting....

E3 10: Ubisoft presents a laser tag game

It’s the mid-90s everyone! Laser tag is back, baby. Ubisoft has just announced what is basically laser tag at home, but they’re calling itBattle Tag. They’re saying it’s a videogame you play away from the screen, with the content going up over the Internet via your PC. I’m really trying to pull out more than laser tag with stats from this because Ubi is going on about it, but I’ve got nothing....

E3: Kirby returns on the Wii with a monstrous sword

It may not have Kirbymade out of string, butKirby Wiilooks fantastic regardless. Co-op seems to be a given for Nintendo properties on the Wii; naturally, this game allows up to four players to fight some familiar faces. (Seriously, how many times have we kicked the tree’s ass?) One lucky player gets to control Meta Knight, which should be fuel for off-screen fisticuffs when mere dibs aren’t enough. There are also Super Abilities to look forward to, like the giant sword shown in the footage above....
