DSi sales hit 3 million in Japan, 6.68 million worldwide

I remember writing a story about the DSi when it was new. At that time, many of Destructoid’s readers did not seem eager to purchase a souped up DS Lite. Even today we see some resistance. Is itthe piracy thing? Are you not a fan of low-res cameras? Well, someone’s buying them. Just a couple of days ago, Japan’s total sales of the DSi beat the 3 million sold mark. In all, that’s 3,062,920 sold in only 9 months, says Enterbrain....

E3 08: Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility

Upon dropping by the Natsume suite to see what was going on in the “Serious Fun” neck of the woods, it was brought to my personal attention that it isHarvest Moon‘s 10 year anniversary. Imagine that! A whole decade of virtual corn picking and cow herding to celebrate! Joy! To commemorate this occasion, Natsume has two new games to add to theHarvest Moonfranchise, the first beingHarvest Moon: Tree of Tranquilityfor the Wii....

E3 08: Korg DS-10 hands-on

If you regularly read Destructoid, you’ll know that I’ve beenband-geeking outover details and footage of theKorg DS-10 SynthesizerMusic Creator for the Nintendo DS. This portable music maker was said to only be coming to Japan, but a few days before E3, XSEED Games surprised us by saying that they would be launching the title, and that it would even be playable at E3. I met with them for some hands-on time....

E3 08: New Dead Space trailer from Saw director James Wan

This latest trailer forDead Spaceentitled “Loved Ones” (which can be found after the break) is the creation ofSawdirector James Wan. It’s not every day you see a film director delve into videogame trailers, but Wan says he’s a “massive fan of space horror stories” and that he was “blown away by the cinematic visuals and philosophy behind [Dead Space’s] story.” The trailer itself does a fine job of showing off the game’s creatures without revealing too much in the process....

E3 09: ModNation Racers turns you into track editing Bob Ross

At its core, ModNation Racer is “simply a kart racer.” You’ve played them before, in games featuring everyone from Mario (Mario Kart) to Crash Bandicoot (Crash Nitro Kart) toStar Warscharacters (Super Bombad Racing). So why be excited about “just another” kart game? For one, Vancouver-based developer United Front Games set out to make their title, in their own words, a “thoroughly modern take on kart racing.” From a technical standpoint, that means what you’d expect — leveraging the power of the PlayStation 3 to deliver high definition graphics, real-time physics, and spot on kart handling and kart-to-kart collision detection....

E3 10: Monday Night Combat gets all single-player/co-op

The more and more I see ofMonday Night Combatthe easier it is to get excited about it. The entire idea and look of the game really just looks like a blast in general, and the “Blitz Mode” shown off above does nothing to change that fact. In this mode instead of going head-to-head against a human opponent you defend your money ball from hordes of robots attempting to steal it. This allows the game to have an actual single player along with co-op for up to four players....

E3 2007: Hands-on with Contra 4

I thought there wasn’t much more I could say about the upcomingContra 4, having already postedscreenshots(OMG!) andfirst gameplay footage(ZOMG!) of the game a couple of weeks ago.Well, gosh be darned, I just got to actually play the thing and there is no way I am just going to sit back with my own, private thoughts about the game. I have to express my feelings to the world! So, what’s the verdict? Did my over-hyping of the highly anticipated sequel ruin the experience for me, or did I infuriate Konami by salivating all over the Nintendo DS they let me borrow to play the game (here’s a hint: Niero, I told them to bill you for the damages)?...

We sort of already knew aboutFruit Ninja Kinect, thanks toKorea’s ratings board, but this morning it became official with the confirmation of anotherSummer of Arcade. E3: Half of Soulcalibur V’s roster to be new fighters

When Project Soul shipsSoulcalibur 5next year, it will feature between 20 and 30 fighters. Over half of them, I was told, will be entirely new warriors. In the behind-closed-doors demo I saw at E3 this week, we were shown an extremely early version of the upcoming fighter. Only 15% into development, it was only a small taste of what to expect. Running on an entirely new engine,Soulcalibur 5is faster than its predecessors, addressing concerns that previous games in the series weren’t brisk enough for competitive fighting....

EA gets dark with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Unsurprisingly, Electronic Arts has announced that it has a game based onHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1in the works. The title, like the books (and subsequent games), will be a shift in tone when compared to the earlier Harry Potter titles. The action-basedDeathly Hallowshas Harry, along with pals Hermione and Ron, outside of Hogwarts and on the run, facing off against Death Eaters and other unpleasantness. One of the screenshots shows Potter hiding behind a girder, which suggests a pop-and-shoot cover mechanic....

Saturday, EA issued a statement via the officialBattlefield: Bad Companywebsite, proclaiming that they are aware of connectivity issues that some players have been facing while trying to play online.
