Omega Five and Tron on XBLA this Wednesday

Wealready knewthatOmega Five(800 Microsoft Points) was coming to Live Arcade this week, but the deal has been sweetened:Tron(400 Microsoft Points) will also be released on Wednesday. The side-scrolling shmupOmega Fivemakes me wish that more original games were available on XBLA, rather than rehash after rehash. It has refreshing visuals, multiple characters, and best of all, an old-school mode that is extremely unforgiving in the health department (thinkGhosts ‘N Goblins). The one thing this game doesn’t have going for it is co-op, as it’s offline only....

Open world zombie-survival game coming to XBLA

Seattle, Washington-based Undead Labs has announced today that it has partnered with Microsoft to bring an “open world zombie-survival” game to Xbox Live Arcade. Code-named “Class3,” the third-person open world title finds players facing a classic zombie apocalypse situation. Survivors will be forced to find a settlement, fortify the area from undead attacks, as well as venture out into the world for supplies and to rescue other survivors. It sounds like “Class3” has an action slant to it, as Undead Labs is promising “sweet guns, fast cars, hand-to-hand combat, and copious amounts of zombie gore....

Overlord contest extension … of DOOM!

Hi all, just a brief reminder about theBecome The Overlord, Win The Overlordcompetition that I kicked off last week. In my wisdom and benevolence, I have seen fit to grant thee a merciful extra weeked to fashion your ten commandments and send them to me at[email protected]. Of course, when I say this is merciful, I am not covering up for the fact that I was stuck in an office until 3am and thus haven’t had time to choose my winners....

Pachter: Spyro Skylanders will underperform

I’ve previously expresseda strange excitementfor Activision’s toy crossoverSkylanders: Spyro’s Adventuresdue to its nineties-flavored gimmickry. The publisher is pumping big marketing dollars into the franchise, but analyst Michael “Don’t Put It In There” Pachter sees only disappointment. “Although we expectCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3to perform very well due to Infinity Ward’s prior successes and the network effect, the success of many other 2H titles (including twoCabela’sgames, aSpider-Mangame, anX-Mengame, aJames Bondgame, andSkylanders Spyro’s Adventure, among others) remains uncertain,” he said....

Play the first case of Ace Attorney Investigations

What has always been completely amazing about theAce Attorneygames is their incredible quality throughout the series. Most game series start losing steam around number three, but the adventures of Phoenix Wright, and more recently Apollo Justice, have always been top notch. The games have consistently featured great writing and fantastic mysteries, and the next game in the series,Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgworthseem to be no different. How do I know? Why I’ve played the first level, and so can you....

PlayStation Network Update: Win a Car edition

In this week’s PlayStation Network Update, there’s plenty to play and watch, but only one of the itemscould help you win a new car. It doesn’t hurt that theGRIDdemo (961mb) is also pretty kick-ass. After getting the control scheme down, I found myself addicted to the drifting section of the demo. Actually, all the demos are pretty good this week. There are demos forHAZEandThe Bourne Conspiracy(each about 1.5gb), and theHAZEdemo even supports multiplayer....

Podtoid 24: As long as we got each other edition!

Once again, we come to the time of the week when the sun is shining, young men’s fancies are turning into thoughts of love, and birds are alighting from their perches in order to have sex with the sexiest of all the bees. Of course, that also means it’s time to record another episode ofPodtoid. On tonight’s very special episode, Carol is drugged at a party, and Mike has to come to her rescue....

Podtoid tonight, made up of 100% concentrated listener questions

This kind of makes me want to not vote for either of them. Anyway, Podtoid’s tonight. Since everyone’s been playing some of the ridiculous number of great games to come out the past couple weeks, game companies have evidently been too busy to make any interesting news for Jim, Aaron, Topher and I to talk about. That’s where you come in, of course. Ask whatever the hell you want to ask (so long as it’s game-related), and we’ll make an entire episode out of the best questions we have....

PSP slim sells 1 million units, sells faster than original PSP

The newly revamped PSP Slim (or PSP-2000 for the model number-loving geeks) has just hit the 1 million units sold mark, and that’s just in Japan. What’s more impressive is that it has done so faster than the original PSP did. The new PSP launched on September 20th, which puts the new system hitting the milestone two weeks faster than the original did back in 2004. Both look stellar when compared to the PS3, which took 8 months to sell 1 million units....
