GC 09: Get this Brutal Legend trailer into your skull

Electronic Arts kicked off Gamescom with a presser full of hype and marketing, like any good presser should. Among the festivities was a bit of a boast aboutBrütal Legenddefeating the “huge ugly monster” that was Activision and making its date with Rocktober. There was also a brand new trailer. The trailer shows off plenty of gameplay, most notably the multiplayer combat that we’ve been hearing about. Make sure you check the video out after the jump, and get prepared for the game that Activision could not defeat....

I haven’t thought once aboutPlayStation Homesince I played it the one and only time, but I’m sure other gamers are still having fun with it. No, really, someone plays it. I swear. Anyway, Sony’s US director for PlayStation Home, Jack Buser, spoke today at GDC in regards to Home’s future.GamesIndustry.bizreports that Busey announced Home will be getting three new social spaces per month in the future. Grow your own 1up mushroom

Tired of Chia pets and want to impress your friends with your less-than-stellar botanical skills?ThinkGeekhas it all worked out for us. The “Grow Your Own 1up Mushroom” is a simple and easy way to spruce up your home with both a plant and some original Nintendo merchandise. The instructions for the planter are exceedingly easy. First, you take the pipe and fill it with some high quality soil. I suggest using something that is really nutrient enriched, considering that fungi loves to soak up everything around it....

GTFO: GameStop director dumps 2.3 million shares

Is something going down in GameStop land? Is it time to GTFO? It seems like GameStop director Leonard Riggio felt that way, as he just sold 2.3 million shares of GameStop stock. That’s some $60 million in his pocket now, lowering his stake in the games retailer to 5.5 percent from 6.9 percent. So maybe he just needed the money? I don’t know. I looks like he’s onto something.Gamasutrareports that the last time Riggio sold big, he managed to avoid a 62 percent loss....

Guess what! PSPgo Rewards scheme is not for Americans

You remember yesterday when we announced that Sony had introducedonenot-quite-awful ideafor the PSPgo? Well, this is Sony we’re talking about, so I guess I was naive to think it would last. The PSPgo Rewards scheme, where PSP upgraders can download three free games, is for Europe only. That’s right, North American users will NOT get free games. This is amazing. PSPgo Rewards was perhaps the only PR move Sony had done right since this disaster was announced, and they’ve managed to stuff even that up....

Hands-on: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

One of the few action-RPGs that really caught our eye at Destructoid this year wasKingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Where most games of this genre focus on heavy action and light role-playing elements or heavy role-playing with a somewhat broken combat system,Reckoningseemed like a title that didn’t just sound great as a concept, but looked good to boot. Whereas potential for a game is one thing, being able to give it a go yourself and seeing if it passes the test of a set of critical eyes is another thing altogether....

Happy Birthday to Shigeru Miyamoto

As well as it being thePS3’s birthday today,GoNintendoreminds us that it also happens to be the birthday of one of the most important figures that will ever live in the videogame industry. Shigeru Miyamoto has turned 55 years old today (it’s still the 16th on the Pacific Coast when I posted this story!) and Destructoid happily wishes you a Happy Birthday Shiggy. Now, when I saw the news that Shigeru celebrated his birthday today (or yesterday technically in Japan time), it reminded me of a speech I had written about him for my speech class in 2003, my senior year of high school....

Having 360 wireless headset issues? Microsoft is aware

As is the norm nowadays when Microsoft tries to rush something new out the door, we inevitably become beta testers. Such is the case with the slick-looking wireless headset for the Xbox 360 that recently became available. The problem: Most of us who own it are having syncing issues and problems with people on the other end hearing us. Our only hope: Microsoft now knows about it and is hopefully on the case....

Hello, world: Peter Moore says EA is going global

EA’s CEO, John Riccitiello, has come to be known for a mix of confidence and humility that has even endeared him to some of themost cynical gamersout there. Peter Moore, the President of EA Sports, seems to be taking cues from Mr. Riccitiello, except he throws in his trademark charisma as well. In a recentinterview with MCV, he discussed a variety of topics, including competition with Activision Blizzard, gamers’ hatred for his employer, casual gaming, and his decision to sign on with EA....

Here’s what portable ghostbusting on the DS looks like

I’ve been playing a preview build of the Xbox 360 version ofGhostbustersfor a few days now, and it not anything like what’s shown in the trailer after the jump. Oh, this is for the Nintendo DS version of the game? My bad. Built from the ground up for the DS by Red Fly Studio, for some reason I’m reminded ofGrand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. Just, you know, with more ghosts instead of pedestrians and the Stay Puft Marshmallow man instead of the Triad....

Hunted: The Demon’s Forge video is about some sounds

Developer diaries really are arrogant. It’s like nobody asked the developers to make a documentary, so the developers made it themselves. Nevertheless, I’m still looking forward toHunted: The Demon’s Forge, so I’ll let inXile off the hook. This latest video is all about sound. If you’ve always wanted to know how Hunted makes grass noises, then this is your lucky day. Game’s out May 31 in North America, June 3 in Europe....
