Light gun games haven’t quite gone the way of the dodo, but I’ve generally considered them to only be worth playing for a few minutes at an arcade (before I get tired of them). But with the launch of PlayStation Move thisSeptember, they may be poised for a comeback. Namco Bandai is doing their part, packaging ports of the arcade versions of three light gun games —Time Crisis: Razing Storm,Time Crisis 4(2007), andDeadstorm Pirates— and releasing the bundle asTime Crisis: Razing Stormin North America this fall....

Infinity Ward isn’t known for its co-op campaigns, andModern Warfare 2will be no exception. Despite lacking a co-op story, there will be a new two-player mode known as “Special Ops,” which is designed to be infinitely replayable. The fact of the matter is, Infinity Ward doesn’t believe in putting co-op into a main story campaign. “We don’t do co-op in our story because we’re crafting a very specific experience and we don’t want to ruin that by cramming co-op into it,”offers IW’s Robert Bowling....

Jack Thompson, controversial attorney and hater ofGrand Theft Autohasbeen recommended guiltyin twenty-seven of his thirty-one misconduct charges by Judge Dava Tunis. Last year, the madcap defense attorney was on trial for charges of misconduct, many of which revolved around his obsession with violent videogames. Tunis has recommended that 27 of the charges be upheld by the Florida Supreme Court, which will make the official ruling: After considering the arguments presented by the Florida Bar and the Respondent (Thompson), observing the Respondent’s demeanor during the nine-day trial proceedings, and carefully reviewing the record consisting of four volumes of exhibits totaling 1700 pages and approximately 2400 pages of transcribed testimony, the Court finds that the facts, circumstances and evidence presented regarding the Respondent’s conduct, supports a finding of guilt as to certain Florida Bar rules…...

It was disappointing to hear Playdead only announceLimbofor Xbox LIVE Arcade. There’s no sane reason to wish that a game — especially one ascaptivating asLimbo— remain exclusive to your platform of choice at the readily apparent suffering of others. I’m sure that there are plenty of Xbox 360 owners who would never even give Mistwalker’sLost Odysseya second thought. Even though it’s an Xbox 360 game, it’s not really anXbox 360 game— you know what I mean? But, for every gamer that is constantly strung from one first-person shooter to the next, there’s another that has that JRPGneed —a need that was not filled by Mistwalker’s last RPG,Blue Dragon. LucasArts explored porting “games like Monkey Island” to the iPod. Weak software sales numbers and a company repositioning prevented the titles from being developed. Speaking with us aboutSecret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, the game’s producer Craig Derrick said the game took anywhere from over three years to nine months to finish. It’s all perspective: three-and-a-half years ago, Derrick’s first project was to find ways to put classic games on different platforms....

I have a lot of faith in Marvelous. They’ve published a lot of my favorite 3rd party Wii games, includingNo More Heroes 1and2,Little King’s Story, andMuramasa: The Demon Blade. They’re a small publisher without a lot of money to throw around, which I think has led them to make games that work extra hard to be expressive and interesting. It sounds like they’ll be going the same route with the 3DS....

AMass Effectanime is coming. A deal was just announced between EA and animation company FUNimation to bring a home video movie version of the popular videogame to fans in 2012. Set in theMass Effectuniverse, the anime will feature a science fiction adventure “set in a vast universe filled with dangerous alien life and mysterious, uncharted planets.” Tokyo-based anime and international feature film production company T.O Entertainment has signed on as a co-producer on the video....
